Hello, I'm Dave Cohen, a guitar instructor, guitarist, composer, and Berklee College of Music graduate based in Evanston, Illinois. Music has been a part of my life for more than 40 years, and I enjoy helping students discover the same excitement and satisfaction that playing guitar has brought me. I teach private guitar lessons for kids, teens, and adults, both in my Evanston studio and online. Whether you're picking up a guitar for the first time, returning after years away, or looking to take your playing to the next level, lessons are tailored to your goals, interests, and experience level. My students enjoy a wide range of styles, including rock, blues, classic rock, progressive rock, acoustic guitar, funk, and jazz. Some students want to learn their favorite songs, while others are interested in improvisation, music theory, songwriting, or developing stronger technique. Whatever your goals, I strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment where learning feels enjoyable and rewarding. Over the years, I've performed in bands, recorded in studios, worked as a session guitarist, and composed original music. These experiences allow me to share practical, real-world musical knowledge with my students while helping them build confidence and long-term skills. One of my favorite parts of teaching is seeing students achieve goals they once thought were out of reach. Whether it's playing a first song, performing for family and friends, or simply enjoying music more deeply, I enjoy being part of that journey.
