Jonathan Saraga

I’m Dr. Jonathan Saraga, a GRAMMY-winning trumpeter, flugelhornist, composer, and dedicated music educator based in New York City, with over 25 years of professional performance experience and more than 15 years of teaching students around the world. I hold Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Jazz Studies and Trumpet Performance, and have appeared on 40+ recordings and 250+ music videos while performing with internationally acclaimed ensembles across 500+ cities and nearly 70 countries. I work with students of all ages and levels—from beginners to advanced musicians—offering personalized lessons both online and in-person in NYC that focus on tone development, technique, musical instinct, and creative expression. My teaching philosophy centers on guiding each student toward their own unique musical voice through a supportive, individualized approach rather than a one-size-fits-all system, helping them build both technical mastery and genuine artistic confidence. With experience teaching in schools, conservatories, and private settings—as well as working with special needs students—I bring a versatile and thoughtful approach to every lesson. My students and their families have consistently rated my teaching highly, earning nearly 70 five-star reviews, and I take pride in helping each student unlock their full potential while developing a lifelong connection to music.
